Starlink by SpaceX as Business Revolution
What is Starlink?
Starlink is an American company called SpaceX, a provider of
internet services that are directly connected to satellites. There are
approximately 2,000 Starlink's satellites already operating and orbiting at a
lower position than other communications satellites as a result of which it is
thought to increase access speeds.
The Starlink constellation network is planned to be at three misaligned orbital heights. In the first phase, SpaceX will launch 1584 satellites into orbit 550 km above the top of the Earth. The orbit has an inclination of 55° and 40 misaligned orbital planes using each plane has 66 satellites. After that, SpaceX will start filling the other 2 orbital altitudes. They will load 7518 satellites into orbit with a height of 340 km and 2841 satellites for an altitude of 1200 km.
The first phase required 24 launches using 60 satellites at
each launch to achieve global reach, but required only 6 launches to be able to
serve the Internet to North America. SpaceX plans to have one to five more
Starlink launches by the end of 2019.
The Starlink satellite development center located in
Redmond, Washington serves as a research, development, satellite production,
and control center for all satellites on the Starlink internet satellite project.
To connect to the satellite, the user only needs a small
satellite dish. The shape can be varied. Some can be installed on the roof or
on the home page.
What is SpaceX?
Space Exploration Technologies Corporation or abbreviated as
SpaceX is a private United States space transportation company founded by Elon
Musk using the development of the reusable Falcon rocket. SpaceX is also
sharing the SpaceX Dragon spacecraft for sending supplies and crew replacements
to the International Space Station.
SpaceX was founded on May 6, 2002 by an entrepreneur named
Elon Musk. Originally based in El Segundo, SpaceX now operates in Hawthorne,
California.
SpaceX was the first private company to launch a space probe
into orbit, and land it back in 2010. It was also the first private company to
send a space probe to the International Space Station.
The first also lands an orbital-class rocket using the
"propulsive landing" method. Relaunch of an orbital-class rocket,
sending an object into solar orbit (Test launch of a Falcon Heavy rocket
carrying a Tesla Roadster car; & the first private company to send
astronauts into orbit & to the International Space Station.
In 2020, SpaceX also shared Starship, a self-funded, super-heavy launch system for interplanetary spaceflight replacing the Falcon 9 & Dragon spacecraft.
How fast is Starlink access?
Tests using internet speed measuring site Ookla show that
Starlink's internet speed exceeds 100 Mbps in 15 countries. In the United
States, the service offered by Starlink is internet access using a download
speed of 105 Mbps and an upload speed of approximately 12 Mbps.
Which countries are the targets?
In almost all regions of western Europe, Starlink is readily
available. In the North American region which includes Canada, the United
States, and Mexico, Starlink is not yet accessible in Alaska and in the
northern part of the Canadian region.
For the Asia Pacific region, Starlink is only available in
the southern hemisphere of Australia. Residents in Japan, India and Indonesia
can only be served in 2023. The company has no plans to ship Starlink devices
to Russia and China.
SpaceX announced the reach of Starlink via its official
Twitter account (Elon Musk Twitter). Although it does not specify the countries where Starlink
operates, SpaceX does display a map describing its service areas on the
starlink.com/map page.
How much did Starlink build?
Starlink internet costs in the United States itself are
relatively expensive and recently the price has gone up. To buy the antenna,
the fee is USD 549, while the service fee per month is USD 110.
How much is the Starlink service port?
For countries that are included in the 'coming soon'
category, they have actually been able to pre-order Starlink services from last
year. How to enter the Starlink site, add an address & pay a deposit of 99
US dollars.
How does Starlink work?
Starlink works by transmitting coverage through a vacuum,
where it travels much faster than fiber optic cable & can reach more people
& locations.
While most current satellite internet services are based on
a single geostationary satellite orbiting the planet at approximately 35,000
km, Starlink is a constellation of satellites orbiting the planet closer to
Earth, at approximately 550 km, and covering the entire globe.
Because the Starlink satellites are in low orbit, the time
back and forth between the user and the satellite – also known as latency – is
much lower than using a satellite in geostationary orbit. This allows Starlink
to provide services such as online gaming which normally cannot be done in
other satellite broadband systems.
Starlink was created to provide high-speed broadband
internet, even to locations where access is unreliable, too expensive, or not
available at all.
How is Starlink's security level?
SpaceX has demonstrated its commitment to space safety
through action, investing significant resources to ensure that all of our
launch mounts, spacecraft, and satellites meet or exceed space safety
regulations and best practices, including:
Designing and building a highly robust & maneuverable
satellite that has demonstrated over 99% reliability.
Operates at low altitude (below 600 km) to ensure that no
debris remains, even if the satellite fails in orbit.
Inserting satellites at very low altitudes to verify health
before being raised into orbit at their stations/operations.
Share orbital coverage transparently using other satellite
owners/operators.
Develop advanced friction avoidance system to take effective
action when risk exceeds safe threshold.
