Fred Leighton
Fred Leighton. For every connoisseur of beauty, there is a gem. But for those looking for something unique, a piece of genealogy, a design with bold style, there's only one source: Fred Leighton, curator of much-coveted vintage jewelry. Whether you want to buy or sell the rarity of Georgian, Victorian, Edwardian, Art Nouveau, Art Deco, Retro or contemporary, Fred Leighton has been a trusted authority for over 40 years.
Fred Leighton
brings history and his richly colored characters to life. The spirit of heroine
Jane Austen, flapper Fitzgerald, and Golden Age actress transcends the
boundaries of time and place. From intricate 1700s gold designs to bold 1970s
sculptural pieces, the Fred Leighton collection inspires you to wear jewelery
in a very modern way.
Today, vintage
jewelery rarely adorns Hollywood stars and is close to masterpieces of art in
individual collections worldwide– but that wasn't always the case. Until the
1970s, period pieces were not valued and were frequently dismantled for the
stone, which was rearranged with new designs. Mr. Fred Leighton put an end to
this shortsighted application, increasing the appeal of antique jewelery and
making it desirable.
Owner of a
bohemian dress shop in Greenwich Village in the 1960s, it was an unlikely start
for a fine jewelery supplier. But with a curator's eye and connoisseur's taste,
Leighton focused her business on vintage jewelry and moved to the Upper East
Side in the 1970s. Soon after, the boutique attracted international
celebrities, socialites and tasters alike– and breathed new life into their old
gems. Josephine Baker, Diana Vreeland, Elizabeth Taylor, Brigitte Bardot, and
Jackie Onassis are just a few of the style icons whose outer jewelery has
usually been sold by Fred Leighton.
While period
jewelery is by no means the heart and soul of Fred Leighton, the house has also
produced new pieces that draw inspiration from the historical period – but have
never been reproduced. Designed by the in-house team, everything in the
collection is signed by Fred Leighton and is either limited edition or one of a
kind.
Today, gemstone
and period design expert Fred Leighton works with clients to create the perfect
piece, whether a pair of event-appropriate Art Deco earrings or a fabulous old
mine diamond engagement ring.
At the Vogue,
Harpers Bazaar, and W parks, Fred Leighton jewelry is paired with today's
finest fashions. At the Oscars and Golden Globes, regular red carpet goers like
Nicole Kidman, Lupita Nyongo, Charlize Theron, and Meryl Streep took the
spotlight in extraordinary performances.
More than
glamorous, Fred Leighton jewelery is a treasure with a story and a soul. Each
evokes a sense of joy today and will become an heirloom passed down from
generation to generation. Discover the emotional and transformative experience of
